The team take posession of the minibusOn 16th May at Mossview Care Centre in Huyton the disability coaching team of Everton In the Community (EITC) took posession of a Mini Bus which was donated by Southern Cross Healthcare as part of the Southern Cross Partnership with EITC.

The keys to the bus were handed over to Chief Executive of EITC Graham Lewis by Baroness Morgan of Huyton who also attended the event.

The event was attended by the Senior Management team of Southern Cross Healthcare, the Disability Coaches and some of the disabled team players and the Home Manager of Mossview along with staff and residents.

Baroness Morgan stated that from the moment she entered Mossview she felt a feeling of warmth and happiness. She toured the home and was very impressed with the overall appearance and welcome that she received.

The Baroness also stated that the projects that are being developed between Southern Cross and EITC are trailblazing and an example of getting back to basic life skills with the involvement of children and elderly. She further stated that the projects were equally important and beneficial to both the elderly and young alike.

Graham Lewis was very appreciative of receiving the Mini bus from Southern Cross and said that it would be put to very good use.

He stated that the work taking place between Southern Cross and EITC is pioneering and leading the way in getting back to grass roots in the community.

The team talked extensively with the elderly residents and listened very attentively to the stories of past memories and experiences from residents.

Resident Mr Ken Wright and his wife Sylvia presented the Baroness with a bouquet of Flowers.

The partnership with EITC is going from strength to strength, this week Operations Manager Sue Ashcroft took her Home Managers to meet with the team to discuss the next pilot project.

The next project will run over 30 weeks and involve residents from all of her Homes taking part in teaching year 6 children basic life skills and in turn the school children teaching our elderly residents IT skills such as photography and games this will include Nintendo Wii games, old games such as dominoes, cards....no poker allowed!!!!!!

The primary key element of all of the subjects that will be covered is physical activity. As a taster the school children have been invited to take part in the Regional Breath of Fresh Air day which takes place on the 17th June 2008.
