Palliative Care is the active care of patients with a terminal condition that no longer responds to treatment. Our care is about providing the best quality of life for them and their families.
It focuses on controlling pain and other symptoms, easing suffering and enhancing the life that remains.
It integrates the psychological, social and spiritual aspects of care to enable families during both the patient’s illness and their bereavement. The support palliative care offers is often needed early on in the illness. Palliative Care is a vital part of all clinical practice, whatever the illness or its stage.
We have the experience within a number of care homes to provide the nursing, social and personal care that is appropriate. Staff working within these care homes will have specialist training in pain management, symptom relief and bereavement. We also recognise the need for the personal support of the individual’s family, including respite from the stress of caring in the home environment.
